Light, Shadow and Memory converge here.Wander through the pieces and let the work lead you home.
Each work is a palimpsest of place and memory—layers of ancient reliefs and archaeological echoes rubbing shoulders with expressionist urgency, abstract gesture and symbolic hush. The cultures of East and West, the intimacies of nature and the grandeur of distant traditions, all feed her palette and expand the vocabulary of the work. Nothing here is accidental; every element enriches the whole. An ethereal atmosphere—misty, mystical—settles across the canvas, as if time itself has pooled and seeped into the paint. Her surfaces seem to breathe between eras: archaic traces and contemporary impulse fuse into a single, timeless field. That quality gives the work its haunting power; it does not merely depict a place, it summons its memory.

The below painting entitle Basalt Ballet,Acrylic and mixed media on canvas,
60x50 cm
This painting draws its breath from two distant shores: the West Indian (American) flamingo — a living emblem of Bahamian identity — and the ancient engraved motifs etched into Jordan’s volcanic stones. By weaving these strands of cultural memory and folklore, the work becomes a layered palimpsest of story and colour. Its lines carry a classical, Athenian poise while its light unfolds like a tale from One Thousand and One Nights — unique , luminous, and quietly beguiling.
Artworks inspired by ancient rock carvings
Ancient graffiti The rock drawings of Al Harrah desert are considered by some to be one of the first examples of graffiti and a very early form of regional artistic expression. When Jordanian visual artist Rawan Al Adwan stumbled upon Safaitic sketches of camels, gazelles & hunters, she became determined to bring her ancestors' art alive. Al Adwan believes that by recreating the images on canvas, she could breathe life into a forgotten ancient society of talented people. “I produced paintings that reflected their essence, but with a new composition and colour,” she told Inspire Middle East. “These people were educated, they used to teach reading & writing. Also, they taught philosophy and astronomy, which was very attractive to me. So, I worked through my paintings to highlight and exhibit them in different galleries in Jordan and abroad.“ interviewed by Euronews Published on 21/10/2020 - 12:58 GMT+2
Every piece of my artwork tells a story—stories from the past left to us by our ancestors, narrated through a contemporary lens. This is the essence of art: to convey a narrative through diverse perspectives, depending on the message the artist wishes to communicate to the audience.
In this work, titled Caravan of Light and ShadowI utilized acrylic paints and various materials to create a vivid representation of the sun's rays reflecting off the sands that cradle the ancient petroglyphs of northeastern Jordan, known for its remarkable rock engravings. This piece embodies an abstract, symbolic, and expressive style, showcasing a caravan of camels that seem to have just emerged from the very rocks upon which these engravings are etched. The imagery of camels is among the most prevalent motifs in that region.
The painting captures two distinct moments in time: sunrise and sunset. This contrast creates a striking harmony between light and shadow, symbolizing the passage of time and the journey of life. The warm hues of the sunrise blend seamlessly with the cooler tones of the sunset, resulting in a harmonious transition of colors that captivates the viewer. This duality not only enhances the visual appeal of the painting but also invites contemplation of its deeper symbolism—representing adventure and the nature of existence.
One of the unique features of this artwork is its ability to be viewed from different angles, sparking curiosity and encouraging the viewer to engage with the elements of the painting as if they were being addressed personally. The strength of the composition, the fluidity of the colors, the texture, and the depth of the subject matter all contribute to its distinctive character.
This piece stands out for its unique and contemporary Eastern style, It is not merely a painting; it is an invitation to explore the rich tapestry of history, culture, and the human experience, resonating with the viewer on multiple levels.
